5 Beneficial Activities for Toddlers That Don’t Require Any Prep Work

November 8, 2019 by Isabel William Leave a Comment

If you have a toddler, you know that kids of this age require constant attention and nurturing. This can sometimes get extremely challenging. However, we can all agree that allowing kids to use smartphones all the time is beyond wrong. That is why you should come up with other ways to entertain your kid. Here are five amazing activities for toddlers that don’t require any prep work, so check them out and enjoy!

5 Activities for Toddlers (without prep work!)

So let’s have a look at this list of activities for kids that don’t require any prep work yet can teach then tons of things.

1. Give playing in the mud a fair shot

Yes, we know that it probably sounds a bit too silly and ridiculous, but you know what? Recent research showed that dirt contains microscopic bacteria called Mycobacterium Vaccae, which can boost our immune system, increase the level of serotonin in our brain, and successfully fight inflammation. Even though exposure to mud, dirt, and germs may seem scary, it actually primes children’s immune systems and prevents allergies. Besides that, mud is a fantastic medium for learning, too. It encourages kids to express their creativity while improving their fine motor skills. It also allows them to practice social skills such as communication and cooperation. So bear that in mind and let your little one play in the mud the next time it starts raining!

2. Go outside and roll down a hill

The majority of parents will probably agree that seeing their kids roll down a hill is probably the spookiest thing they have ever experienced, but you know what? This activity is extremely beneficial to your little one’s development. So encourage your child to roll down a hill and talk to them about the different ways they can roll. You should also try to find several different kinds of hills – steep and not so steep ones, hills covered with grass and those covered with sand. Remember that regular physical activity will have a positive impact on your kid’s long-term health. This is over and above the benefits of developing their senses, posture, balance, and strength at the same time. This is particularly true for this activity as they’ll move their entire body, so let them roll down a hill and you’ll do a great job!

3. Dress-up and role play are very beneficial as well

The majority of kids simply adore role play – especially when it involves a bunch of amazing, colorful costumes they can wear. So don’t wait any longer and let your little one dress up. Apart from being super fun and entertaining, this activity is great.  Your kid can learn a lot about different professions and occupations.

While impersonating you or anybody else they’ve encountered, you might be amazed by the phrases and words they come up with. For example, they might pretend they’re the waiter from the restaurant where you had dinner recently. They might pretend to be their teacher or the doctor you took them to. They’ll copy what those people said and the way they said it, rather than what they’ve heard from you.

Besides that, it helps kids begin to make sense of the adult world. This is essential if you want your kids to enroll in different courses appropriate for their age in the near future. For example, if you want your kids to start learning English, dressing them up as English teachers is a fantastic way for your kids to understand what it is all about. It will also boost their social interaction and let their imagination run wild, which is beyond fabulous, right?

4. Playing in puddles? Sure, why not!

Similar to playing in the mud, playing in puddles is an activity that is often perceived as silly by the majority of parents. However, this one is highly beneficial for the kids as well. So get your rain boots on and go out as soon as it starts raining! There’s something really special about kids and rain puddles – they love to jump in them, float things in them, and feel the splashes on their legs. So don’t be a party-breaker and let your child have fun.

All you need to do is to encourage your kid to wear their raincoat and boots (as long as it isn’t too cold outside, of course) and let them jump in puddles while it’s still raining. This is an amazing way to develop the gross motor skills of stomping and jumping. On the other hand, your kid will also get a chance to learn which objects will float in the puddle and which ones will sink. This is another advantage you should put to good use!

5. Blowing bubbles is also a good idea

kid blowing bubble; Activities for toddlers

Last but certainly not least, there’s a game of blowing bubbles which is one of the great educational activities for toddlers that doesn’t require any prep work. Bubbles are beyond great for encouraging movement – both in small babies and in older children. These will introduce the practice of movement and teach them spatial awareness. This is a good exercise for the kids – especially when they start to chase the bubbles and pop them.

When it comes to toddlers, they will develop fine motor skills, too. Their fine motor skills improve as they dip the wand in and take it out of the bottle, move it around, and learn to hold it properly. Of course, you should encourage your child to use both hands, until they figure out which hand they prefer. You should bear in mind that blowing bubbles will stimulate your little one’s sight – visual tracking in particular. Bubbles have a beautiful shine and tend to slowly float in the air. So they will draw your kid’s attention and encourage them to focus successfully.

As you can see, there are so many amazing educational activities for toddlers that don’t really require any prep work. This is exactly what makes them so fabulous. So, if you want your kid to have fun and learn something new at the same time, just pick any of these five activities for toddlers.  You’ll do the right thing, without a shadow of a doubt!
